What better time to start off a blogs existence than the day after the VMAs?
The Michael Jackson Tribute!!!!!!!!!! Madonna opened the show with a reminiscence of the brief semi-relationship she shared with Mr. Jackson in 1991. “I can’t say we were great friends”, she said as she began. She went on to say that he was a hero and how having a childhood allowed her a chance to make certain mistakes that he didn’t have. Near the end of her tribute, she recalled the tragic day the world lost this great man… “All I could think about in that moment was…I had abandoned him — that we had abandoned him. That we had allowed this magnificent creature that once set the world on fire to somehow slip through the cracks. While he was trying to build his family and rebuild his career…we were all busy passing judgement. Most of us had turned our backs on him.In a desperate attempt to hold onto his memory, I went on the internet to watch old clips of him dancing and singing on T.V. and on stage, and I thought “my God, he was so unique, so original, so rare and there will never be anyone like him again… he was a king. But he was also a human being…and alas we are all human beings and sometimes we have to lose things before we can truly appreciate them.“ Finally after telling how her own sons are now obsessed with Mr. Jackson, she said, “…and it seems like a whole new generation of kids has discovered his genius and are bringing him to life again. Yes, yes Michael Jackson was a human being, but damn it, he was a king.” She ended her tribute by saying, “Long live the king.”
After Madonna spoke, the dancing began. Thriller, Smooth Criminal, Bad…all were performed wonderfully (even though one dancer couldn’t seem to get his “Smooth Criminal Lean” to perfection) then…the moment most were waiting for had arrived. The intro to Scream (the song Mr. Jackson had done with his youngest full sister) began and everyone (especially Jennifer Lopez and Alicia Keys) was caught screaming their heads off . Then after the sound of glass shattering (as in the song) and with the actual breaking of a glass mirror, Janet Jackson appeared and performed the first live performance of the song. As I watched, I was just as mesmerized as I had been the first time I saw the music video. As well as Janet performed…petty idiots had to point out how she slipped during the dance breakdown. I was focusing on the more important aspects of the performance…Tina Landon (one of my favorite dancers) dancing beside Janet…and more importantly how Janet just killed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So to all of you a$$holes who want to linger on that one mistake think about this…if it were you, could you have played it off as well as she did?
Kanye does it again!!!!!!!!!!!!! The attention whore took the mic from Taylor Swift and declared Beyonce’s “Single Ladies” the true winner of Best Female Videoin addition to being one of the best videos of all time. Taylor was therefore unable to complete her acceptance speech…but when Beyonce won Video of the Year, she gave Taylor the chance to complete her speech (kudos for Beyonce!!!!)
But was Kanye really wrong for voicing his opinion? Don’t get me wrong, how he did it was wrong…but come on, if he would have won one of the categories he was nominated in, and during his acceptance speech said the same thing, he would still have hurt Taylor’s feelings, and still be the upset of the show.
**side note** Did he and his girlfriend really get kicked out of the show? That’s kinda extreme…and his girlfriend was dense for leaving with him if they asked him to go!!**
Hot performances of the night (imo)!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hands down Janet Jackson wins this category, but there were two other performances that came very VERY close to hers. 1. Lady Gaga: honestly, I hadn’t heard that song before last night but that performance was INSANE!!!!!!! Would anyone like to elaborate how and why she started bleeding out of nowhere? She’s flucking awesome!!!!!!!!!!! 2. Pink: she as usual did outstanding…although, she had me scared while she was suspended in air…brave chick!! I sure as hell wouldn’t have done it…
lastly but nowhere near the least!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After the VMAs ended…Janet’s hardcore fans received a gift. A new song called Make Me which can be heard here: http://www.janetjackson.com/gift?give=gift. This song is classic Janet and highly addictive. Take a listen for yourselves. The lyrics to Make Me can be found here
